Around 9 April 2025 (week of), Taliban intelligence forces arrested and beat three family members of a former United States Institute of Peace contractor in Kabul province, questioning them about his cooperation with the United States. Sources reported that the incident followed a false disclosure by the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency claiming that he had been a former Taliban member through whom the U.S. had funded the Taliban.
