[India] Violence against civilians: Attack

On 9 April 2025, police opened fire on a truck with cattle smugglers (likely tribal as the Jai Adivasi Yuva Shakti (JAYS) got involved) eight kilometers away from the Hela Padwa outpost under the Chenpur police station area near the Madhya Pradesh- Maharashtra border (Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh). Three persons, including policemen and a smuggler, were injured. Two cattle smugglers escaped from the spot. 10 cows were recovered. The suspect's family members and members of JAYS accused that police of opening fire on the smugglers. Police claimed that there was no exchange of fire and that the injuries were the result of the collision between both the vehicles.
