[Guatemala] Violence against civilians: Abduction/forced disappearance

On 10 April 2025, in San Pedro Carcha, Alta Verapaz, two women and a man abducted a 7-year-old girl and demanded the payment of a Q150,000 ransom from her family. The victim was kidnapped for ten hours and subsequently released after the family's payment of part of the requested ransom. According to the investigators, the kidnappers had gained the trust of the family before abducting the child. The authorities arrested two of the three suspected perpetrators. The health conditions of the child are unknown.
