On 15 April 2025, students burned rubble, torched cars, and pelted stones at cars in the Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha (O.R.Tambo, Eastern Cape) to demonstrate against the bad conditions of their accommodation. The campus residence manager shot at the students, killed 1 and injured 2 other students. The 2 students were hospitalized. The students also demanded justice for the students who had been shot by the campus residence manager. The residence manager's wife was hit by a hard object thrown by the students (extent of injuries unknown/not reported).
