Around 17 April 2025 (as reported), in Saramiriza (Loreto), members of the Awajun Indigenous group carried out a demonstration by breaking into city hall premises and blocked the road between Saramiriza and Bagua localities, protesting against oil spill and contamination of water sources in the region on 19 March. The group demanded intervention from the regional government and their demands to be addressed.
