[Madagascar] Riots: Mob violence

On 2 April 2025, a mob beat and killed a 19-year-old in the Mangarivotra Nord neighborhood of Toamasina (Toamasina I, Atsinanana) after they mistakenly thought he had stolen a mobile phone. A man who attempted to defend him was also injured. 8 people, including the fokontany chief of Mangarivotra, were arrested. On 22 December, two men were sentenced to five years in prison and a fine of 50 million ariary to the victim's family.
