[Italy] Riots: Violent demonstration

On 6 April 2025, about 300 people, including representatives of PaP, gathered in San Francesco Square in Bologna (Emilia-Romagna) to demonstrate against the European Union's 'ReArm EU' plan and in open opposition to another demonstration, called by the mayors of Bologna, Matteo Lepore (PD), and Florence, Sara Funaro (PD), which saw a large group of people gather in Nettuno Square to demand a more inclusive, fairer European Union. The pro-EU demonstration was attended by several political representatives, mayors, and MEP Annalisa Corrado (PD). During the event, anti-rearmament demonstrators tried to reach Nettuno Square but were stopped by the police in anti-riot gear on Ugo Bassi Street. Rioters then set a European Union's flag on fire before trying to break the police cordon. The police reacted, charging the rioters, pushing them away using their shields and batons, and forcing them to leave.
