[Guatemala] Riots: Mob violence

On 2 April 2025, in San Vicente Pacaya, Escuintla, a group of residents physically attacked a man accused of kidnapping a baby girl whom the residents themselves rescued. Police officers intervened to arrest the suspected kidnapper and prevent him from being lynched. Displeased about the arrest, the rioters held several police officers and workers from the public prosecutor's office and physically attacked and confronted the police, who deployed a riot unit to release the held people. During the clash, the rioters also burned a police patrol car, three motorcycles, and the police substation. One policeman died after being stoned in the head. 1 fatality.
