Other: On 23 March 2025, the Turkish government removed the elected mayor of Sisli district of Istanbul ( who had entered office after winning the March local election as a candidate of CHP), replacing them with Ankara-appointed governors to act as trustees. Known as the 'kayyum', the policy had previously been imposed on the towns and provinces that have majority Kurdish population after they elect mayors from pro-Kurdish parties. This policy has recently started to be applied to CHP-run municipalities as well. It has been claimed by the government that the removed mayor were identified to be engaged and affiliated with 'terrorist' organizations.
