[Tanzania] Strategic developments: Arrests

On 9 April 2025, police arrested CHADEMA political opposition leader Tundu Lissu and fired teargas at a rally when his supporters tried to prevent the arrest in Mbinga (Mbinga Mjini, Mbinga, Ruvuma). He was subsequently transferred to Dar es Salaam and charged with treason and publishing false information by inciting the public to obstruct the 2025 general elections during a rally on 3 April in Mikocheni. 4-5 others were arrested with him, including a CHADEMA Chairperson and 2 bodyguards; 3 of them were released.
