On 14 April 2025, about 20 farmers gathered outside the Department of Agriculture in Taraz city of Zhambyl region in protest of the authorities-initiated claim for dispersed farm subsidies back to the state after farmers sustained losses due to drought in the summer of 2023, demanding that the regional authorities address farmers' concerns regarding inability to refund subsidies back to the government.
