[Chile] Violence against civilians: Attack

On 2 April 2025, near Pidima (Araucania), at least five suspected members of RMM erected incendiary barricades on Highway 5 at around Km 584 and shot and threw stones at drivers, including three truck drivers. A banner at the site, signed RMM, threatened the director of the Araucania prison service and the warden of Temuco prison in retaliation for the transfer of three Mapuche prisoners away from Temuco prison. The transfer was initiated after three prisoners inside the Mapuche wing of Temuco prison attacked four prison officers, including with boiling water and heavy objects, during a raid on 1 April. There were no injured during the shooting, but several trucks were struck by bullets. Police dispersed the suspected members of RMM in an unspecified manner before discovering the banner.
