[Venezuela] Strategic developments: Arrests

On 2 April 2025, in Caracas (Distrito Capital), police and military forces arrested the PSUV mayor of Guajira (Zulia), accusing her of drug trafficking, corruption, and conspiracy against the State. SEBIN and DGCIM officers also raided her home in Simanaica (Zulia) and her office. On the same day, three public servants from her office were also arrested in Guajira (Zulia) (coded separately). SEBIN is currently searching for her husband, who serves as the director of public security in the mayor's office and owns a cross-border transportation company. She is currently being held in detention in Caracas. The arrest was part of Operation Relampago del Catatumbo, which seeks to dismantle drug trafficking groups operating along the Colombian border.
