On 16 April 2025, sailors closed (with unknown means) the fishing port entrances in the fishing port in Bekalta (Bekalta, Monastir) and prevented marine companies vessels from entering to protest the deterioration of the environmental conditions, as well as the spread of dirt and waste in the port. They also denounced the deterioration of its infrastructure and called for the authorities' intervention. The fishers temporarily lifted the blockade after agreeing to a future emergency meeting with the regional governor to present their grievances.
