[Netherlands] Protests: Peaceful protest

On 22 March 2025, in the afternoon, at the call of the 21 March Committee (Comite 21 Maart), at least 15,000 people, including teachers, students, activists from Amnesty International, KOZP, Greenpeace, the Dutch Palestine Committee (Nederlands Palestina Komitee), Jewish organization A Different Jewish Sound (Een Ander Joods Geluid), the Collective against Islamophobia and Discrimination (Collectief tegen Islamofobie en Discriminatie), elected politicians (Volt, GL/PvdA), marched from the Dam to the Museumplein in Amsterdam (Noord-Holland) to protest against racism and fascism, at the occasion of the International Day against Racism. Protesters carried Palestinian, Ukrainian, Lebanese flags, as well as flags from political parties (GL, PvdA, SP, BIJ1 and PvdD), pride flags and BLM flags, and signs addressing issues such as discrimination, the war in Gaza, and government policies on asylum seekers. Speeches covered various topics, including solidarity with Palestine, climate change, LGBTQ+, women's issues, and labor exploitation. Speeches were held by representatives from FNV, women's organizations (Vrouwen tegen Uitzetting, Dolle Mina), a De Vonk councillor, and a representative of the Amsterdam taxi drivers. They were joined by around 500 anti-Erdogan protesters including Turkish nationals and Turkish students. There was a small counterdemonstration by 4 protesters from the Dutch far-right nationalist and identitarian youth organization Geuzenbond who held a banner from a boat in channel, calling for 'remigration', meaning the forceful return of migrants to their country of origin. Around 17:15, an Israeli and an American flag were burned. The demonstration ended peacefully, with no arrests reported.
