On 26 March 2025, over 250 public bus drivers and conductors stopped work and protested in Xai-Xai (Xai-Xai, Gaza) against the installation of a traffic checkpoint in the city. Police shot and killed 1 man while trying to disperse the protesters who were demanding for the deactivation of a traffic checkpoint/inspection post in Potinha neighborhood, claiming that police use it to illegally extort money from drivers. During the demonstrations, traffic on all routes stopped and many schools closed.
