Green forest fire notification in Myanmar

AIブリーフ

Supply-chain Risk Briefing: Myanmar Wildfires

1) Summary Wildfires occurred in Myanmar from April 8-16, lasting approximately 8 days, and were classified as medium-grade by GDACS. While they appear to be currently extinguished, as these fires occurred during dry season, we must monitor the possibility of recurrence and impacts on regional agriculture and forestry production.

2) Supply-chain impact

  • Agricultural production: Myanmar is a major producer of rice, corn, and legumes, and agricultural land losses in fire-affected areas could disrupt Southeast Asian grain supply
  • Timber and forest products: Damage to Myanmar's forest areas is expected to have short-term impacts on exports of timber, bamboo shoots, and other forest products
  • Logistics infrastructure: Road network blockages or reduced visibility from smoke could cause delays in inland transportation and cross-border logistics
  • Manufacturing raw materials: Risk of disruption to cotton and other raw material procurement or production shutdowns at Myanmar's local garment and textile factories

3) Watch points

  • Need to confirm the scope of impact on major agricultural and industrial areas by clarifying damage scale and locations
  • Track additional wildfire potential due to continued dry season in April-May and Myanmar government's fire prevention response status
