On 9 April 2025, people demonstrated outside of a sports venue in Hafnarfjordur, Hafnarfjardarkaupstadur, to oppose the participation of the Israeli women's national handball team in a World Championship qualifier match against Iceland, viewing it as legitimizing and supporting the Israeli government. Activists from the Iceland-Palestine Association participated in the event, among others.
