[Guyana] Riots: Violent demonstration

On 25 March 2025, in Letter Kenny, East Berbice-Corentyne, supporters of the People's Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) government's ruling party held a demonstration with placards and disrupted a meeting between a well-known businessman (described as the possible contest in the upcoming general elections) and residents. The demonstrators mocked the meeting and tried to prevent residents from attending it. Demonstrators were led by the Region Six Vice Chairman along with a Regional Democratic Council (RDC) councilor. During the mobilization, a demonstrating PPP/C supporter slapped a residents (supporter of the businessman). The demonstrators, identified as 10-day workers, were suspected of taking part in the demonstration under threat of job loss.
