[Costa Rica] Violence against civilians: Sexual violence

On 26 March 2025, in Jaco, Puntarenas, a prison guard sexually abused an elderly man, who was detained at the Judicial Investigation Department (OIJ) station of Garabito. An investigation is currently ongoing to determine the circumstances of the attack. In the meantime, the prison guard was suspended from his position and had to report to the police. The health condition of the victim is unknown.
