On 15 April 2025, an unidentified armed group abducted, tortured and sexual abused a journalist from Debout RDC in Bukavu (Bukavu, Sud-Kivu). Just five days earlier, he had received death threats from a suspected FARDC general, who accused him of siding with the rebels. The journalist had been reporting on allegations of abuse committed by the FARDC in the village of Ihusi, Sud-Kivu. He was released four days later, after enduring torture and sexual abuse, and then went into exile.
