On 16 April 2025, in the morning, at the call of XR, around 40 people protested, approximately 15 of which entered the Gravensteen castle in Gent (Vlaanderen) and others protested outside it with drums, banners, and speeches, climbing over barriers and blocking public access, against the inadequate climate policy and demanded citizen assemblies as a form of 'real democracy.' One activist glued himself to the entrance gate while others dropped large banners from the monument's walls. The police intervened, having to physically remove the glued activist, temporarily closed the site, removed the further activists, and issued reports and fines, with four individuals administratively detained for refusing to show ID.
